We have more than 350 campers and 100-plus staff members. A typical day at camp features six 50-minute instructional periods, including electives (free choice), and scheduled activities. Bunks range in size from 11-22 campers, with 3-5 counselors in each bunk.
Counselors are assigned to one or two staffs. Staffs include: Waterfront (must be certified to teach swimming); other activities include windsurfing, waterskiing, sailing, and canoeing/kayaking); Athletics, Riflery, Archery, Project Adventure (outdoor/nature activities and group games), Drama, Arts and Crafts, Tennis, Judaica, Music, Israeli Dance, Radio Station, Photography, and Camping/Tenting. We're also looking for specialists in a range of activities such as wrestling, kickboxing, yoga, pottery, cartooning, woodworking, videography, and more! Each activity has a department head who has expertise in the area as well as the ability to coordinate staff scheduling and training.
Kitchen, maintenance, and support staff work on a shift schedule determined by their department head. Kitchen responsibilities include cleaning, cooking, and food preparation; maintenance crews mow, paint, and make repairs around camp, as well as restock supplies and clean camp grounds, buildings, toilet, and shower facilities.
Evening activities include game shows, carnivals, socials, and sports events. You will be required to attend an orientation session that will begin (for most staff) a week before the campers arrive and you must be available for the entire camping season. We give preference to applicants who have completed at least their first year of college.
We welcome new staff members to the CYJ "family!"
