Staff Application for 2012

Shalom! We’re glad you’re interested in Camp Young Judaea. Ask anyone who’s worked for us: it’s a memorable, intense, and fun experience.

We offer competitive salaries, a beautiful location, a community of warm, friendly people, and opportunities for growth and success.

Working at camp CAN be a great addition to your resume!! Our staff hiring begins each November and continues into early spring.

Please note that we only hire staff 18 and older and prefer that you are completing at least your first year of college. We also have lots of adult staff members, many with families. If you have summers available, we’d love to hear from you.

Campers come back to CYJ year after year because of the lifelong friendships they make, the wonderful facilities we offer, the opportunity to learn new skills in a dynamic and fun environment, and of course, because of our fantastic, talented, and dedicated staff! The vast majority of our staff also comes back year after year, too.

Founded in 1939, Camp Young Judaea offers children ages 8-15 an exciting, fun-filled, learning experience. We have more than 350 campers and 100-plus staff members. A typical day at camp features six 50-minute instructional periods, including electives (free choice), and scheduled activities. Bunks range in size from 11-22 campers, with 3-5 counselors in each bunk. The camp is run by an independent non-profit organization that does not represent any one branch of Judaism. Although we are kosher we have campers from a variety of Jewish backgrounds.. Although most of our bunk counselors are Jewish, many members of our kitchen, maintenance, office, and other support staff are from a variety of faiths.

CYJ is located on Lake Baboosic in Amherst, New Hampshire, just minutes from Manchester and Nashua. In addition to our lake and pool, camp facilities include tennis courts, playing fields, basketball and volleyball courts, archery and riflery ranges, outdoor adventure course, a large modern dining room, sturdy wooden cabins, and several other spacious indoor facilities, including a gym/theater and arts and crafts studio.  Music, dance, and drama are integral parts of our program. Bunk counselors live with campers in rustic yet comfortable cabins; some support staff live in separate adult housing units.

An active night life is available just minutes away. Movie theaters, restaurants, and malls are located a short distance from camp. We are just one hour from Boston. We’re also near many scenic vacation areas, including the Maine and New Hampshire seacoast, as well as the White Mountains. We provide van service for staff without cars and also have bicycles available for use. Information is available during the summer about local sites, hostels, and traveling tips for after-camp plans.

Kitchen, maintenance, nursing, office and other support staff work on a shift schedule determined by their supervisor. Please note your preference on our staff application.
