Meet the Directors

Hi, I’m Ken Kornreich, executive director of Camp Young Judaea.

My association with CYJ dates back to 1963, when I started as a shy and anxious camper. Later, I worked for years at YJ, first on the kitchen crew and then on the maintenance crew. My first “date” with my wife Marcy occurred in girls’ area while delivering snack in 1974. Following graduation from Babson College, I joined the “real world” and figured I would have to enjoy YJ vicariously through family members who still worked at or attended camp.

In 1992, I left a career in real estate development to return to camp as director. I love working with children and families and relish the opportunity to wear shorts year round! In addition to my camp duties, I have worked as a varsity baseball coach at Gann Academy in Waltham, MA, coaching two championship seasons and many rosters of wonderful student athletes. I also serve on the board of the Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters Association and headed my temple’s Religious School committee for 12 years.

Our children Rachel, Kayla, and Ari have all grown up in a wonderful, warm camp environment — a place that’s safe, fun, and supportive, a place where they can celebrate their Jewish heritage in a positive, meaningful way, a place where lifelong friendships are made and happy memories are created. We’d love YOUR children to join us!

Hi, I’m Marcy Kornreich, associate director of Camp Young Judaea.

I always tell people that I loved CYJ as a camper because it was the one place where I really felt free to be my own, true, authentic self. I still feel that way every summer when I walk into our first meal and see all those happy, excited faces!! I started as a camper in 1968 and was chosen to work on the staff for a few years, first on the Waterfront and then as Drama Director. Like Ken, I joined the “real world” after graduating from Brandeis University, pursuing a career in journalism and eventually teaching journalism at a local college for five years. I continue to do freelance writing and editing, as well as supporting, promoting and participating in social action programs in my “spare time.” And I spend a lot of time chasing after our lovable but crazy dogs, Teddy and Rocky.

Returning to CYJ was the greatest gift ever, not just for me, but for our entire family. With two children as staff members and one still a camper, we see first-hand again and again the incredible life-changing impact of being a part of CYJ.

We view our relationship with parents as an essential partnership. We are all focused on the same goal: ensuring that your child is making friends and having a wonderful, memorable summer in a safe and supportive Jewish cultural environment. Please always feel free to call us with any questions, concerns, feedback or if you just want to talk!!

Hi, I’m Jamie Segill, assistant director of Camp Young Judaea.

I’m lucky to have the best job in the world.

I started at camp in 1989 and got into trouble my first year in Bet when the then-director called my mother and told her I had a “fresh mouth.” I immediately straightened up and didn’t cause any more trouble!! ☺ I’m a member of Daled ’93 and I traveled to Israel with the incredible CYJ Gadna program, then spent several great years on staff, first working on the Waterfront and then as programming assistant. I graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2000 with a degree in Business focusing on Hospitality and Tourism Management, and started working in the “real world” but my heart was always with camp. After only a few months in the “real world” I joined CYJ full time, I have never looked back. I am happy to say I have never missed a summer!

In my spare time, I love to play with my dogs Howie, Brady and Bentley, I teach painting classes and I’m a very active committee member of the group Aid For Cancer Research.

I love working with campers, staff and their families. I’m always available to help, either by email or by phone, with everything from packing tips, bunking questions to activity choices! Like so many of you, my best friends in the world and some of my most favorite memories are from camp. I’m looking forward to another great summer!
